EDI, University of Gondar Partner to Strengthen Entrepreneurial University Ecosystem

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) and the University of Gondar (UoG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 26, 2026, in Gondar to transform academic potential into a driver of economic growth. The strategic partnership embeds the Entrepreneurial University model within the institution, moving beyond traditional higher education by converting academic theory into practical economic ventures.

Under the agreement, the collaboration will focus on equipping young graduates, students, and faculty members with essential entrepreneurship and business management skills. By cultivating early-stage innovations into commercially viable startups and strengthening research-driven ties between both institutions, the initiative is designed to significantly accelerate regional and national job creation.

During the signing ceremony, an EDI delegation consisting of senior leadership toured the campus to evaluate UoG's existing Business, Technology, and Innovation Incubation Center. To fast-track the center's capacity, EDI committed material, professional, and technological support to upgrade the center's infrastructure.

The agreement was signed by UoG President Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn and EDI CEO Dr. Hassan Hussein. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Asrat emphasized that EDI's institutional support builds immense capacity for UoG to graduate self-reliant job creators, ultimately strengthening a model entrepreneurial hub capable of playing a vital role in Ethiopia’s national economy. Dr. Hassan highlighted EDI's dedication to fueling these grassroots economic engines through strategic institutional capacity building.

It is recalled that a Memorandum of Action (MoA) was signed between EDI and the Ministry of Education in December 2025. That national agreement established a comprehensive blueprint for reform to launch Business, Technology, and Innovation Incubation Centers (BTIICs) across six regional clusters, setting the institutional framework to transform Ethiopian universities into dynamic hubs for innovation.
