Addis Ababa - The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) has achieved significant progress in its mission to strengthen vocational education, with its safeguarding initiative now covering 78% of its national target.
In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation through the SEED program, and in collaboration with Light for the World, EDI has successfully expanded its reach to 78 TVT institutions following the completion of a second Training of Trainers (ToT) on Safeguarding and Inclusion held in Addis Ababa from April 27–30, 2026.
This development represents a major advance toward the goal of equipping specialized focal persons in 100 institutions nationwide. The four-day intensive program provided 27 focal persons with the practical tools and facilitation expertise required to transform their campuses into secure, welcoming spaces.
These professionals serve as institutional anchors, cascading their knowledge to colleagues to guarantee that safety and equity transition from abstract concepts into operational realities for all young people. Upon returning to their respective institutions, these trainers are equipped to integrate safeguarding principles directly into institutional systems and official codes of conduct.
Drawing on feedback and lessons learned from the initial round, this second phase evolved to be more inclusive and interactive. Beyond technical instruction on protecting students from harm and promoting accessibility, the session functioned as a high-level networking platform, establishing a unified communication channel for focal persons across Ethiopia.
This collaborative network facilitates real-time problem-solving and the sharing of best practices, maintaining a consistent level of excellence and expanding access for young people across the entire TVT sector.
