EDI and Ministry of Health Partner to Accelerate Healthcare Innovation via Intensive DYV Program

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), has concluded a strategic training intervention aimed at embedding a culture of innovation at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC).

The program is a cornerstone of the MoH-led Health Sector Innovation Initiative, a nationwide effort to modernize Ethiopian healthcare through entrepreneurial thinking and systemic reform. Launched in February 2026, the initiative utilized the Public Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Building (PEIEB) framework to catalyze institutional change.

During the intensive incubator sessions held in Adama, more than 100 senior and middle-management leaders from SPHMMC participated in efforts to transition the hospital beyond service delivery. The goal is to transform the college into a self-sustaining engine of health innovation capable of generating home-grown solutions to complex medical challenges.

By integrating public entrepreneurship into its core operations, SPHMMC aims to elevate healthcare standards across the board. The program empowers leadership to adopt design-driven strategies and reform internal administrative systems, ensuring the institution remains agile and resilient despite economic or systemic pressures.

Participants also focused on strategic foresight, preparing the hospital for the technological and systemic disruptions expected over the coming decade. This shift represents a vital cultural transition toward a proactive, innovation-oriented approach a key pillar of the MoH’s broader vision for a modernized health sector.

This collaboration exemplifies EDI’s mission to act as a catalyst for national development. By strengthening SPHMMC’s capacity for systemic innovation, EDI and the Ministry of Health are creating a scalable blueprint to be rolled out to health institutions nationwide, ensuring a transition into dynamic, future-oriented ecosystems.
