Imagine going from teaching at a university to selling vegetables on the street. That's Letaye Bekuretshion's journey. But her story doesn't end there. This International Womens Day2025, we celebrate Letaye's transformation!
Born with a dream to nurture young minds, Letaye's path was disrupted by conflict, forcing her to pivot from academia to survival. But her spirit remained unbroken. Selling vegetables in Mekelle, she never lost sight of her vision. Then came the turning point: EDI’s Entrepreneurship training through the SEED program, in partnership with the Mastercard foundation. It reignited her dreams, connected her with her childhood friends, and provided the tools to build a better future. She and her friends pooled their resources and established a kindergarten, creating not just a school, but a beacon of hope for their community.
Letaye's journey is evidence of the resilience of women and the transformative power of entrepreneurship. From street vendor to school founder, she embodies the true meaning of "Rights. Equality. Empowerment."
At EDI, we believe in unlocking the potential of every woman. Letaye's story shows that with the right support, women can overcome any obstacle and achieve their dreams.
