EDI and Ethiopian National Theatre Partner to Strengthen the Creative Arts and Cultural Sectors

ADDIS ABABA, The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) and the Ethiopian National Theatre (ENT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the EDI Headquarters, establishing a partnership to accelerate entrepreneurship, drive innovation, and support inclusive job creation within Ethiopia’s creative arts and cultural sectors.

The agreement brings together EDI and ENT, the nation's premier state-owned cultural institution operating under the Ministry of Culture and Sport. By fusing technical business expertise with artistic excellence, the partnership aims to formalize the country's largely informal creative economy, transforming it into a high-value digital industry that offers dignified, scalable employment.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate to build entrepreneurial competencies among artists through customized training modules covering intellectual property rights, arts administration, and digital branding. A key initiative includes the establishment of joint "Creative Arts Hubs" designed to incubate artistic projects and transition them into viable, sustainable business entities.

To ensure long-term market integration, the institutions will focus on improving access to financial services, revolving funds, and creative grants for sector startups.

Additionally, EDI will provide technical leadership, incubation toolkits, and training-of-trainers (ToT) programs for ENT staff, while ENT will leverage its national reputation to mobilize target participants particularly youth and women and provide deep sectoral expertise in performing arts and advanced stage technology. The collaboration establishes a structured pathway for local talent to transition from informal work to sustainable, market-oriented businesses. Moving forward, the joint initiatives set forth under this agreement are poised to reshape the creative value chain, making it more resilient, digitally integrated, and attractive to long-term investment.
