Diversity and Inclusion

EDI’s diversity and inclusion efforts are geared towards building an inclusive and diverse workplace whilst facilitating equitable access and removing barriers to entrepreneurship for all individuals- irrespective of their physical, cognitive, cultural, economic, and behavioral dimensions -wishing to start and grow a business.

We are determined to ensure our strategies and programs reflect the unique needs of these diverse groups that we impact, and our leadership have the possible representation of the communities that we serve.

Focus Areas

Cultivating an inclusive entrepreneurial culture

Raising awareness about entrepreneurship as a viable alternative to traditional employment to make entrepreneurship accessible to everyone.

Building a supportive regulatory environment

Improving the regulatory environment for business creation and introducing other regulatory incentives for entrepreneurship especially for entrepreneurs from under-represented and disadvantaged groups who have greater difficulty navigating the institutional environment and understanding regulatory obligations.

Strengthening the design and delivery of inclusive entrepreneurship support

Enhancing the acquisition of entrepreneurship skills of unconventional entrepreneurs through training, coaching, mentoring, and business consultancy and advisory services since they typically have lower levels of human and social capital.

Facilitating access to business finance for inclusive entrepreneurship

Improving access to finance of entrepreneurs from under-represented and disadvantaged groups who face even greater barriers due to lower levels of savings and collateral and can face discrimination in financial markets. Improve financial literacy.

Expanding networks for inclusive entrepreneurship

Facilitating the development of entrepreneurial networks to connect entrepreneurs from under-represented and disadvantaged groups with each other, as well as with mainstream business organizations and support programs.

Improving Representation at all levels of EDI

Establish recruitment policies and procedures aimed at creating a diverse and representative workforce that can advance representation of women (i.e also in senior leadership roles), ethnic minorities, vulnerable groups etc.

Improving accessibility

Ensuring accessibility of physical workspaces, providing reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities, EDI’s digital presence, work products, and services.

Safeguarding

EDI is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone—our staff, partners, participants, trainees and visitors. We ensure that everyone who engages with our programs and services is treated with dignity and protected from harm.

Continuously assessing risks and improving practices across all engagement areas.

Participant Protection

Ensuring all individuals, particularly those in training or advisory programs, are aware of their rights and how to report concerns

Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS)

EDI is dedicated to fostering sustainable business growth by integrating comprehensive Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) into all its programs, projects and training initiatives. By prioritizing these safeguards, EDI ensures that its activities not only promote economic progress but also adhere to responsible environmental practices and social equity, thereby creating a balanced approach to development. Through targeted training programs, the institute equips entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to implement sustainable practices, minimizing negative environmental impacts while fostering inclusive growth.
